Ayurvedic massage, prescribed like a treatment

Ayurvedic massage is therapeutic. The oil is medicated, chosen for your constitution and complaint, and the technique is selected by a doctor. At Vaidika in Deira, that means you first have a short consultation, then the therapy is carried out by trained therapists in a private room, with steam or other procedures added if prescribed.

Types of Ayurvedic massage we offer

  • Abhyanga: the classical full-body warm oil massage, usually followed by herbal steam. Used for stiffness, stress, poor sleep and dry skin, and as the preparatory step in Panchakarma.
  • Elakizhi (Patra Pinda Sweda): warm poultices of medicated leaves applied over the body, used in the management of joint pain and muscle stiffness.
  • Njavara Kizhi (Shashtika Shali Pinda Sweda): poultices of medicated rice cooked in herbal milk, used for muscle weakness and nourishment.
  • Udwarthanam: a brisk herbal-powder massage used in weight-management plans and for improving circulation.
  • Pizhichil: warm medicated oil poured continuously over the body while massaging, used for deep-seated stiffness and nervous-system support.
  • Kati Vasti, Greeva Vasti and Janu Vasti: warm oil pooled over the lower back, neck or knee, used for localised pain.

Each therapy is chosen by the doctor, not from a menu.

What a session at our Deira centre is like

You change in a private room, and the therapist explains the sequence before starting. Warm oil is applied with rhythmic strokes, often by two therapists working in synchrony. If steam is prescribed, it follows the massage. Afterwards you rest briefly, then shower on site. Allow 75 to 90 minutes in total.

Who Ayurvedic massage helps

Our doctors prescribe oil therapies for people with back and neck stiffness, joint pain, stress and poor sleep, dry or dull skin, and as preparation for Panchakarma. Sessions run daily from 10:00 to 22:00, so a course can fit around work. Request an appointment and we will confirm a time and therapist.

Questions about ayurvedic massage

Is Ayurvedic massage the same as a spa massage?

No. At Vaidika the oils, pressure, sequence and duration are prescribed by an Ayurvedic doctor for a health purpose, and the therapy is carried out by trained therapists in a licensed medical centre.

Do I need a consultation before an Ayurvedic massage?

Yes. A short doctor consultation comes first so that the right oil and technique are chosen and any conditions that need care, such as high blood pressure or pregnancy, are taken into account.

How long does a session take?

Abhyanga takes about 45 to 60 minutes, and around 75 to 90 minutes with steam. Kizhi therapies take 45 to 60 minutes.

Can I request a female or male therapist?

Yes. Tell us when you book and we will arrange a therapist of your preference.

How many sessions will I need?

For general wellbeing a single session is fine. For pain or stiffness the doctor usually recommends a course of 5 to 14 daily sessions.
