Getting moving again

Ayurvedic care for frozen shoulder and sports injuries in Dubai at Vaidika Ayurvedic Centre is planned by a DHA-licensed Ayurvedic doctor around your injury, your sport or work, and how your body is recovering. Gym training, padel, running, golf and long hours at a desk all bring their own strains. Our centre opposite Deira City Centre is opening soon, and every plan will start with a consultation.

Conditions we help manage

  • Frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis) and shoulder stiffness
  • Tennis elbow and golfer’s elbow
  • Heel pain, including plantar fasciitis and calcaneal spur
  • Ligament sprains of the ankle, knee or wrist, once serious injury has been ruled out
  • Repetitive strain from training, racquet sports or desk work
  • Muscle tightness and slow recovery after sport

For back, knee and general joint pain, see our page on pain and joint care.

Frozen shoulder

Frozen shoulder usually develops slowly, with pain followed by a long phase of stiffness. Ayurvedic therapies are traditionally used to ease pain and stiffness, and they are combined with regular, gentle movement. The doctor will plan therapies around any physiotherapy you are already doing.

Fresh injuries come first

If your injury happened in the last few days, or you cannot bear weight, have marked swelling or bruising, or heard a pop at the time, please have it assessed by a medical doctor first. An X-ray or scan may be needed to rule out a fracture or a torn ligament or tendon. Ayurvedic care can follow once the injury has been assessed.

Your first consultation

Every treatment begins with a consultation that includes a personalised physical assessment of the injured area, a Prakriti assessment of your constitution, Nadi Pariksha (the traditional pulse examination), and lifestyle and dietary counselling, including training load, footwear and recovery.

How Ayurvedic care for frozen shoulder and sports injuries in Dubai works

Depending on the injury, a plan may include:

  • Elakizhi: warm poultices of medicated leaves applied over the painful area
  • Njavara Kizhi: poultices of medicated rice cooked in milk and herbal decoction, traditionally used for stiffness and muscle weakness
  • Abhyanga: medicated oil massage of the affected area and surrounding muscles
  • Lepanam: herbal paste applied over the elbow, heel or joint
  • Veshtanam: bandaging with medicated preparations to support a sprained or painful area
  • Janu Vasti: warm medicated oil held over the knee, where a knee sprain or strain is involved
  • Internal Ayurvedic medicines prescribed by the doctor
  • Therapeutic yoga and guided movement to restore range of motion gradually

These therapies may help with relief from pain and stiffness and support a steady return to activity. The doctor will tell you when it is sensible to restart training.

Working alongside your medical care

Ayurvedic care at Vaidika works alongside your existing medical care, physiotherapy and any sports medicine follow-up. Please do not stop prescribed medicines, and tell the Ayurvedic doctor what you take.

When to see a doctor urgently

Seek urgent medical care if you have:

  • an obvious deformity, or you cannot bear weight or use the limb after an injury
  • a joint that is suddenly hot, red and swollen, especially with fever
  • numbness, pins and needles, or a cold or pale hand or foot
  • a joint that gives way after a pop or tearing feeling
  • shoulder or arm pain with chest pain, breathlessness or sweating
  • sudden pain and swelling in the calf

What a programme looks like

Programmes commonly run for 7, 14 or 21 days, with sessions of 45 to 90 minutes. From opening day, sessions run 10:00 to 22:00, seven days a week, so sessions can fit around work and training. The centre is opposite Deira City Centre, about two minutes from Deira City Centre Metro (Red Line). Some UAE insurance plans cover Ayurvedic care, and we check cover with your insurer before treatment begins. Request an appointment or message us on WhatsApp with a short description of your injury.

Good to know

Questions about shoulder and sports injuries

Can Ayurveda help with frozen shoulder?

Therapies such as Elakizhi, Abhyanga and Njavara Kizhi are traditionally used in the management of shoulder pain and stiffness. Combined with gentle movement, they may help with relief from pain and support range of motion. Frozen shoulder often takes many months to settle, and the doctor will be honest about timescales.

Do you help with tennis elbow and golfer's elbow?

Yes. Plans for elbow pain usually combine herbal paste application, poultices and advice on grip, training load and rest. The doctor will check whether your pain needs imaging or another opinion first.

Can Ayurveda help heel pain from plantar fasciitis or a heel spur?

Lepanam, Kizhi and oil therapies are traditionally used for heel pain, alongside footwear and stretching advice. A calcaneal spur seen on X-ray will not disappear with treatment; the aim is relief from pain and easier walking.

I sprained my ankle yesterday. Can I come straight in?

Fresh injuries should be assessed medically first, especially if you cannot bear weight or there is marked swelling or bruising, as an X-ray may be needed. Ayurvedic care can follow once a fracture or serious tear has been ruled out.

Should I stop physiotherapy or painkillers?

No. Ayurvedic care works alongside physiotherapy and your existing medical care. Do not stop prescribed medicines.

Is treatment covered by insurance?

Some UAE insurance plans cover Ayurvedic care. We check cover with your insurer before treatment begins.
