Neck pain, the Ayurvedic way
Ayurvedic treatment for neck pain in Dubai at Vaidika Ayurvedic Centre starts with understanding why your neck hurts. Long hours at a laptop, looking down at a phone, long drives and sleeping in cold, air-conditioned rooms all put strain on the neck, and many people live with stiffness for months before seeking help. Our centre opposite Deira City Centre is opening soon, and every plan will be designed by a DHA-licensed Ayurvedic doctor after a consultation.
Neck problems we help manage
- Cervical spondylosis (age-related wear of the joints and discs in the neck)
- Neck stiffness and reduced movement
- Tech-neck: strain from long periods of looking down at phones and screens
- Cervicogenic headaches, where pain starts in the neck and spreads to the head
- Tight neck and upper-back muscles linked to stress, posture or sleeping position
- Pain spreading towards the shoulder or arm, once the cause has been assessed
For lower back, knee and general joint pain, see our page on pain and joint care.
Your first consultation
Every treatment begins with a consultation with a DHA-licensed Ayurvedic doctor. It includes:
- a personalised physical assessment, including how your neck moves and where the pain spreads
- a Prakriti assessment of your constitution
- Nadi Pariksha, the traditional pulse examination
- lifestyle and dietary counselling, covering posture, screen habits, pillow height and sleep
Bring any X-ray or MRI reports and a list of the medicines you take. If the doctor feels your symptoms need further tests or another doctor’s opinion first, they will tell you before any therapy starts.
How Ayurvedic treatment for neck pain in Dubai works
Depending on the assessment, a plan may include:
- Greeva Vasti: warm medicated oil held over the back of the neck inside a ring of dough, traditionally used for neck stiffness and cervical spondylosis
- Elakizhi: warm poultices of medicated leaves applied to the neck, shoulders and upper back
- Abhyanga: medicated oil massage of the neck, shoulders and upper back
- Nasyam: medicated nasal drops, traditionally used in Ayurveda for conditions of the head and neck
- Internal Ayurvedic medicines prescribed by the doctor
- Therapeutic yoga and simple neck movements, introduced gradually as pain allows
- Daily-routine advice for desk work, phone use, driving and sleep
These therapies may help with relief from pain and stiffness and support easier movement. How much they help varies from person to person, and the doctor will explain what is realistic for you.
Working alongside your medical care
Ayurvedic care at Vaidika works alongside your existing medical care, including physiotherapy and treatment from your GP or specialist. Please do not stop prescribed medicines. Tell the Ayurvedic doctor what you take so that therapies and medicines are planned safely around it.
When to see a doctor urgently
Most neck pain is mechanical, but seek urgent medical care, not an Ayurvedic appointment, if you have:
- neck pain after a fall, road accident or other injury
- a sudden, severe headache unlike any you have had before
- fever with a stiff neck, or a stiff neck with a rash or discomfort in bright light
- new weakness, numbness or clumsiness in the arms or legs, or difficulty walking or keeping your balance
- loss of bladder or bowel control
- chest pain, or pain spreading to the jaw or arm with breathlessness or sweating
- dizziness, double vision, or difficulty speaking or swallowing
- unexplained weight loss, or pain at night that does not ease with rest
What a programme looks like
Programmes commonly run for 7, 14 or 21 days, with sessions of 45 to 90 minutes. The doctor reviews your progress during the course and gives you exercises and routine advice to continue at home. From opening day, sessions run 10:00 to 22:00, seven days a week, so daily sessions can be planned around work.
The centre is opposite Deira City Centre, about two minutes from Deira City Centre Metro (Red Line). Some UAE insurance plans cover Ayurvedic care, and we check cover with your insurer before treatment begins. Request an appointment or message us on WhatsApp with a short description of your neck pain.

Questions about neck pain
Can Ayurveda help with cervical spondylosis?
Therapies such as Greeva Vasti, Elakizhi and Abhyanga are traditionally used in the management of pain and stiffness linked to cervical spondylosis. They may help with relief from symptoms; they do not reverse age-related changes in the spine. The doctor will review your reports and explain what to expect.
What is Greeva Vasti?
Greeva Vasti is a therapy in which warm medicated oil is held over the back of the neck inside a ring of dough for a set time. It is traditionally used for neck stiffness and discomfort.
Can it help headaches that start in the neck?
Neck-related (cervicogenic) headaches are one of the problems the doctor may plan care for. Any new, severe or changing headache should first be checked by a medical doctor, and a sudden severe headache needs emergency care.
Should I stop painkillers or physiotherapy?
No. Ayurvedic care works alongside physiotherapy and your existing medical care. Do not stop prescribed medicines, and tell the Ayurvedic doctor everything you take so the plan is safe.
How many sessions will I need?
Programmes commonly run for 7, 14 or 21 days, with sessions of 45 to 90 minutes. The doctor recommends a length after assessing you.
Is Ayurvedic neck pain treatment covered by insurance?
Some UAE insurance plans cover Ayurvedic care. We check cover with your insurer before treatment begins.
